Climb for Cancer Care
Climb for Cancer Care is a project dedicated to providing comfort amenities to patients and families at the Marshall L. and Susan Gibson Pavilion at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. A very special place, the Gibson Pavilion believes in utilizing family, friends, and loved ones in the cancer treatment process. Climb for Cancer Care was established in March of 2005 after the passing of our namesake, "Rockin'" Rodney Scribner, ended his two and a half year battle with cancer.
Each year during the week leading up to the 4th of July, amateur climbers from the Portland area head out for a mountaineering ascent. We use mountaineering as a vehicle for raising funds and awareness for those climbing their own mountains. To date, Climb for Cancer Care has raised $31,000 for the Marshall L. and Susan Gibson Pavilion at Maine Medical Center. With our 2009 event, an ascent of Mt. Rainier (14,410') in Washington State, we are hoping to raise upwards of $30,000!
Climb for Cancer Care is partnered with Maine Medical Center, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit establishment. All donations, large and small, are 100% tax deductible. For more information on how you can donate to us, e-mail Pat (pat@climbforcancercare.com) or see the Donate page.
